New York State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani (D–Astoria), a self-proclaimed democratic socialist and NYC mayoral hopeful, is under fire after one of his staffers was caught on camera tearing down posters of Israeli hostages kidnapped by Hamas.
The woman, identified as Amira Hussein, had previously worked in Mamdani’s office. Footage shows her ripping down the posters, sparking outrage online and renewed scrutiny of Mamdani’s radical ties.
Critics say Mamdani, who has already faced backlash for his outspoken anti-Israel positions, cannot distance himself from the incident given his staff’s direct involvement. Supporters of Israel argue that destroying posters of innocent hostages is not just hateful but deeply disrespectful to families still waiting for answers.
This controversy adds to growing concerns over Mamdani’s judgment and associations as he attempts to climb the political ladder in New York City.
