Campbell’s Soup Company has fired a top executive after a secretly recorded conversation revealed him making vulgar and demeaning remarks about the company’s products and the customers who buy them. The audio, reportedly captured during a November 2024 meeting, included the executive mocking Campbell’s food as “for poor people” and using profanity to describe it.
The company confirmed that the voice on the recording was that of Martin Bally, its former Vice President of Information Security. Campbell’s said his remarks were “vulgar, offensive and false,” stressing that the comments in no way reflect the company’s values or beliefs. His employment was terminated immediately once the internal review concluded.
The recording surfaced as part of a lawsuit filed by a former cybersecurity analyst who claims he was wrongfully terminated after reporting the incident. In the audio, Bally allegedly went beyond insulting the company’s products, also making inappropriate comments about Indian colleagues and admitting to showing up to work while impaired.
Campbell’s has moved quickly to distance itself from the remarks, emphasizing its commitment to product quality and respect for both its workers and consumers. The incident has sparked broader discussions about corporate culture and accountability as the company works to reassure customers that the behavior does not represent its brand.
