There is nothing more maddening – and offensive — than to see hardened criminals caught attacking an innocent bystander, only to walk free hours after their arrest. In New York City we have a “repeat offender” crisis, encouraged and enabled by DA Alvin Bragg, who appears to think no one should ever go to jail, and now also green-lighted by Mayor Mamdani, who seems to believe that the wellbeing of average citizens is none of his concern.

Every day – literally every day – there are stories of people being harmed by perps who have been arrested many times, but are freed from jail due to preposterous laws passed by those living behind security details or gated communities and who are not exposed to the dangers of their policies.

Today’s chapter involves a 27-year-old black man named Gusmane Coulibaly who threw ice balls at cops during the recent blizzard, was arrested and then freed by Bragg. This individual was indicted for robbery 3 weeks ago – and is out on the streets. Mamdani dismissed video evidence that NYC cops were under attack by thugs like this, claiming it was just “kids” having an innocent snowball fight. This particular 27-year old is muscular and is no “kid”; he or someone close by landed two police officers in the hospital with their “snowballs”, which were actually chucks of ice and rock.

Police Benevolent Association president, Patrick Hendry, released a statement Tuesday in which he called Mamdani’s response “a complete failure of leadership.”

This is just one of hundreds of incidents in which repeat offenders hurt someone, again. We’ve become used to it, but at some point voters have to reject these policies, and these politicians. Some of these incidents results in death, like when Martial Simon killed Michelle Go, 40, by pushing her onto the subway tracks at Times Square station in 2022. He had over 20 prior arrests and a “long history of violent incidents; he was on supervised release at the time.

Some come close, permanently changing people’s lives. The New York Post ran a piece last week about a woman who had been pushed onto the subway tracks, suffering a spinal injury and three broken ribs, but was hauled to safety by two Good Samaritans. She was attacked by “repeat violent offender” Curtis Signal, who allegedly also punched a nearby teen in the face, just for good measure. Signal has a history of violent attacks against women. Why is he out on the streets, ready to harm another innocent person?

Violent people need to be locked up, not coddled. We need politicians who care about those of us who go to work every day, take care of our families and obey the law – not those like Bragg and Mamdani eager to restore “social justice” on the backs of the innocents.
