Liz Peek joined Stuart Varney on Fox Business’s Varney & Co. to react to the socialist takeover of New York City — and to warn that what happens in the nation’s largest city rarely stays there.
Peek argued the rise of socialist politics can be traced back to universities that have “indoctrinated our kids to be leftist” and to believe that socialism works — an idea she says history has never borne out. Young voters, she said, are easily swayed by promises of free buses and free child care, the kind of platform Zohran Mamdani ran on to become mayor of New York.
She reserved her sharpest criticism for the Democratic establishment, asking where party leaders like Hakeem Jeffries, Chuck Schumer and Hillary and Bill Clinton were while the insurgent left seized control. Those figures, she noted, could have rallied voters — including in Black churches and community groups — but stayed on the sidelines, leaving the field to the far left.
Peek pointed to historically low turnout, comparing it to the roughly 14% of the city that once elected Bill de Blasio, and said New Yorkers have to get energized and actually participate. The implications, she warned, reach far beyond the five boroughs — the whole country is watching, and these are people who “love themselves” and the power they wield more than they love the country. “People need to wake up,” she said.
