Rama Duwaji, wife of far-left NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, quietly slipped out of the country and boarded an eight-hour flight to Palma, Mallorca, to attend a $3,400-per-head Islamic spiritual wellness retreat. According to the New York Post, which obtained exclusive details, Duwaji was spotted at Newark International Airport on Monday heading to the sold-out getaway run by a for-profit group called The Women’s Sanctuary. She is listed as the group’s artist in residence and was one of the retreat’s hosts.
Let that sink in. While patriotic Americans across the country were honoring the greatest nation ever built, the first lady of the largest city in the United States was kicking back in the Western Mediterranean. The retreat, centered around sacred plants from Islamic texts and featuring art workshops and spiritual reflection, runs through Monday. And in case you thought this was a one-off, Duwaji is then scheduled to host yet another sold-out Women’s Sanctuary retreat in Corsica, France, from July 9 through July 14. Two European getaways. Zero appearances at America’s historic birthday celebration.
Conservative commentator Arynne Wexler blew the lid off this story when she posted photos on X of Duwaji sitting at a United Airlines gate, waiting to board her flight. Wexler was direct: “Funny how when Zohran Mamdani was telling New Yorkers to lower their AC his wife Rama Duwaji was boarding a flight to party in Mallorca.” And that contrast is damning. Mamdani spent the week lecturing working-class New Yorkers to sweat it out at 78 degrees while temperatures inside City Hall were reportedly chilled to as low as 54 degrees. Rules for thee, not for me. That is the Mamdani brand in a nutshell.
Elected officials were not shy about calling this out for what it is. Councilwoman Joann Ariola of Queens put it bluntly: “Nothing says America 250 quite like skipping the celebration for a Mediterranean vacation, but I am not surprised because she has made her hatred for America very evident.” Councilman Frank Morano of Staten Island added that while no one begrudges a vacation, this was a moment to show up, and she failed. It is worth remembering that Duwaji’s deleted social media history includes posts praising Palestinian terror groups, attacking American service members, and reposting rants calling U.S. soldiers merciless slaughterers. Mamdani has tried to shield her from scrutiny, claiming she holds no formal role. But she is the first lady of New York City, and that carries weight whether he likes it or not.
Meanwhile, Mayor Mamdani spent America’s birthday in his own embarrassing fashion, delivering a tone-deaf 15-minute address from City Hall in which he decried capitalism and condemned American foreign policy while sitting at George Washington’s former desk. That image says it all. This is a couple that does not share the values of the New Yorkers they were elected to serve, and as America looks ahead with renewed pride and purpose under strong national leadership, the radical left running Gotham is making it clearer by the day just how out of touch they truly are. New Yorkers deserve better, and they are starting to see it.
