Liz Peek joined Fox News Live on Sunday to take apart New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s threat to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when he comes to New York for the U.N. General Assembly in September — calling it an illegal political stunt from a mayor who already knows he is in over his head.
“It is indeed a political stunt,” Peek told anchor Rich Edson. “This is a guy who, after all, was elected riding a wave of anti-Semitism and anti-Israel activism. He promised his voters during the campaign that he would arrest Netanyahu, knowing full well that it’s probably illegal and it’s not going to happen.”
Peek noted that the International Criminal Court warrant Mamdani leans on accuses Netanyahu of depriving Gazans of food and water. “Who has been doing that lately, Rich? It’s been Hamas,” she said — adding that Mamdani made the same threat back in 2025, while Hamas was still holding Israeli hostages taken on October 7.
Asked why the mayor of New York and Democratic candidates across the country are so consumed by this issue heading into a midterm year, Peek said the answer has nothing to do with voters’ actual lives. “It really does not affect the daily lives of most of their constituents. Their constituents are much more concerned about the cost of living,” she said, and about whether New York will get the A.I. and data-center development that brings jobs and incomes.
“Why this incredible focus on Israel? It is because it is what unites the DSA, the Democratic Socialists of America. It is what unites now the far left,” Peek said, recalling canvassers who told her the one immutable argument they carried door to door before Mamdani’s election was “that Israel is bad, that it’s a colonial nation and all that sort of nonsense that these young people have been taught in school.”
Meanwhile, she said, the city has real problems Mamdani is not solving — starting with “a budget which absolutely is unworkable and unsustainable. Mamdani has his hands full and I think he knows he’s way over his skis. This is something he can fall back on to rev up his base. Honestly, it’s kind of disgusting.”
Peek also previewed Michigan’s August 4 Senate primary, where progressive Abdul El-Sayed is running a Mamdani-style campaign. “Polling is all over the place,” she said. “He hasn’t declared himself a member of the DSA, but Abdul El-Sayed is definitely a progressive leftist like Mamdani, has a lot of energy behind him and also a lot of people resisting him. I’m hoping the people of Michigan realize this is not the track they want to follow.”
