Liz Peek: Houthi Red Sea Oil Threat Could Spike Gas Prices Before the Midterms

  |   By Liz Peek Staff

Fox News contributor Liz Peek joined Fox Business’s The Bottom Line to break down the Houthis’ newly declared Red Sea blockade on Saudi shipping — and to warn that the fallout could land squarely where Americans feel it most: the price of gasoline.

“If there is literally one element in the entire spectrum of consumer spending that gets everybody’s attention, it is the price of gasoline,” Peek said, noting that presidential approval ratings track the price at the pump almost point for point. With Iran leaning on the Houthis and four tankers already turning around because owners can’t get insurance to sail under the threat of drones, she cautioned that the world could “shortly run into global supply problems” — especially for diesel and other refined products — even as a war-weary public heads toward the midterms.

Peek then turned her fire on New York, where state lawmakers are eyeing a 26% pay raise — from $142,000 to $180,000 — for a legislature that meets just 62 days a year. “It’s despicable that they’re even thinking about this,” she said, pointing to a city “on the verge of fiscal collapse” and a state that isn’t much better. While blue states let the cost of government climb “up and up and up,” Peek argued, red states have shown there’s another way: “Florida’s figured it out. Texas has figured it out.”
