Liz Peek appeared on Fox Business’s The Bottom Line to discuss the wave of right-leaning election results sweeping Latin America since the U.S. pulled USAID funding from the region.
Peek pointed to eight consecutive elections that have moved countries rightward since USAID funding was pulled, attributing the shift to the traditional failures of socialism — corruption, high crime, unemployment, inflation, and rising debt. She said voters across the region are looking at Venezuela as a cautionary tale and choosing a different path.
She highlighted Brazil’s elections as particularly significant, noting the right-wing sweep went up and down the ballot, with six members of the Bolsonaro family winning various positions. Peek also pushed back on media coverage of the results, noting that while outlets focused on Bolsonaro Sr.’s imprisonment, Lula da Silva himself had been convicted of corruption some years back before the judiciary threw out the case.
