Liz Peek: A Common-Sense Path for AI Safety on Varney & Co.

  |   By Liz Peek Staff

Liz Peek joined Fox Business’ Varney & Co. with Stuart Varney to discuss the promise and risks of artificial intelligence.

Peek rejected both extremes: shutting down AI development and treating the technology’s risks as a hoax. She argued that AI can deliver major benefits, including medical advances, but said increasingly capable agents can behave unpredictably and must be tested before they reach the public.

Her prescription was a practical middle ground. Congress should not try to write the rules, she said; the White House should bring together technology leaders to establish workable safeguards; and independent third parties should be able to examine data and new models. Companies can continue research and development, she said, but should pace public releases until systems are genuinely tested.

Peek also said President Trump should not appear indifferent to Americans’ concerns about the technology. The goal, she said, is not to stop innovation but to make it safer and more accountable.
