Democrats’ Flimsy Tactics Are Leaving Them Behind—Here’s What They’re Missing

  |   By Liz Peek

I’m off this week, happy to celebrate the Fourth of July with family and friends. But- I can’t resist chiming in!

An X post from Democratic Wins Media caught my eye, saying this:
“Breaking: Adam Schiff is only now leaving the Capitol after spending all night fighting against the Big Ugly Bill. This is the exact energy we need from Democratic Senators. Thank you, Senator Schiff.”

Here’s what’s remarkable: Democrats actually think making the senate stay up all night reading the text of the Big Beautiful Bill aloud to an empty chamber is worthwhile. That somehow that bit of performance art, which accomplished exactly zero for the American people, will advance their cause.
Did many Americans stay up with them? Do we care that they went without sleep for one whole day? Of course not. Their tiresome antics don’t help anyone but maybe the forty or fifty Democrats who think they might be able to run for president in 2028.

The truth is: every single Democrat senator, in opposing the BBB, is voting FOR a $4 trillion tax hike on the American people. Incredibly, Kamala Harris actually ran on a platform that included allowing the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to expire, which would result in that enormous tax increase taking effect at the end of this year. Undoubtedly such a blow to consumers and businesses would have thrown the economy into a ditch. Most likely, if she had been elected, Harris would have had to revise her position, and endorse pretty much what we’re seeing now in the BBB. No, the tax credits for wind and solar would not be axed and the cuts to Medicaid eligibility might not have been written into the bill, but not even Dems would want to see businesses and wage earners hit with a huge tax hike.

That’s why this play-acting opposition is not only pointless, it’s also supremely dishonest. But it’s all Democrats have these days. Whether it’s Cory Booker spouting gibberish for the longest monologue ever on the floor of the senate, or Alex Padilla dramatically busting into a speech by Kristi Noem or Chris Van Hollen traveling to El Salvador to have drinks with Abrego Garcia, Dems are going all in on performance politics.

And what has it gotten them?

President Trump is on a winning streak: taking out Iran’s nukes, brokering peace between Israel and Iran, bullying NATO into much-needed and major increases in defense spending, and receiving a favorable ruling from the Supreme Court limiting the power of district court judges. He’s also resetting world trade agreements to benefit the U.S., and has closed the border. All in under 6 months. And, it looks like we might get an expansion of the Abraham Accords. Really, Trump’s on a roll, as even some of his detractors have admitted.

Against those achievements, Democrat game-playing looks especially idiotic and fruitless. They might instead take a page from Democrat John Fetterman’s book and occasionally applaud something Trump does that benefits the U.S. They might try to work with their GOP counterparts to make the country safer and more prosperous. After all, polling shows their current tack is not working. Democrat favorability, according to Real Clear Politics, crashed to all-time lows this year, and some of the individuals desperate to compete for their party’s nomination to run in 2028 are barely visible in the surveys. Cory Booker, for instance, in one survey of likely Dem nominee, gets only 3% of the vote, less than Bernie Sanders. Democrats’ favorability is underwater by 22 points; Donald Trump, only down by 4.

Who’s leading the Dem rat pack according to an Emerson College poll? Pete Buttigieg. That cheers me up and it should make your day, too.
