Eric Swalwell, Democrat representative from California, proves the point I made recently in a column published by Fox Digital.
Democrats have won over American female voters for decades, even though they have an appalling record of failing to support women mistreated by Democrat politicians. Joe Biden, Bill Clinton and – Cesar Chavez – became leading figures on the Left even as women credibly accused them of sexual molestation (Biden) or rape (Clinton). Democrats put political ambition and power above the damage done to women, even during the #MeToo era, when women coming forward about their mistreatment by men were supposed to be believed and supported.
Tara Reade and Juanita Broadderick were not believed; instead, the women who credibly accused Joe Biden and Bill Clinton, respectively, of heinous behavior were slimed and publicly humiliated.
Women voters—why do Democrats only care about harassment when Republicans are accused? https://t.co/M179WyinpM pic.twitter.com/MEqsm9kajP

Cesar Chavez was an iconic figure on the Left until the New York Times published truly horrifying evidence that the labor leader repeatedly raped under-age girls, leading to at least one pregnancy and an attempted suicide by the unfortunate victim.
Now we have allegations from multiple women that Eric Swalwell sexually molested them or engaged them in non-consensual sex. One has accused him of rape. The rumors have been building for weeks, even as the Congressman is running to become governor of California. Swalwell, naturally, is denying the charges, but there is too much smoke to imagine there is no fire.
It is telling that numerous backers of his gubernatorial campaign have jumped ship. That suggests to me that they knew. Just like the labor leaders who backed Chavez; they knew, but remained silent.
It is ironic, because during the 2018 hearings on Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the Supreme Court, Swalwell was a leading critic, suggesting that the allegations of past sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh should be taken seriously and were disqualifying. He said that “more and more cases that are separate and independent that look the same” made it unlikely the accusers were all fabricating stories, a comment that could certainly apply today against Swalwell.
What is the Democrat response? To suggest he drop out of the California race. NOT, of course, to insist he give up his seat in the House. Republicans have but a single-digit majority in the House; losing even one vote is too hefty a price for Democrat Party leaders to pay for gaining the moral high ground.
Here is the statement from House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar: “Following the incredibly disturbing sexual assault accusations against Congressman Eric Swalwell, we call for a swift investigation into these incidents and for the Congressman to immediately end his campaign to be California’s next Governor. This is unacceptable of anyone — certainly not an elected official — and must be taken seriously. We commend the courageous women for sharing their experiences. In this and all circumstances, we must ensure that those who come forward with allegations of sexual assault and harassment are heard and respected. All perpetrators of sexual assault and harassment must be held accountable.”
Such hypocrisy, such moral turpitude. Someday women will realize that Democrats view them as a reliable voting block, nothing more.
