Liz Peek joined Fox Business to weigh in on two major stories converging at the State of the Union: the U.S. men’s hockey team’s gold medal victory and the Democratic boycott of the address.
On the hockey team, Peek was effusive, expressing hope that Trump would introduce the players immediately and have them lead the chamber in the national anthem. She emphasized that the team’s repeated expressions of love for America and gratitude for their opportunities represent exactly the kind of patriotism the country needs to hear more of.
Peek was far less gracious toward the 70-plus Democrats boycotting the address, calling it “disgraceful” and “a new low of pettiness and childishness.” She argued that Democrats have no constructive agenda of their own and are purely defined by opposition to Trump, conveniently forgetting that over half the country democratically elected him.
On the State of the Union as an institution, Peek was a strong defender of the tradition, noting that America has very little pomp and ceremony compared to other nations and that the image of Congress, the cabinet, and military leaders assembling together is inherently unifying — making the Democratic walkout all the more striking by contrast.
