Democrats are horrified over Mamdani’s candidacy, Liz Peek says

  |   By Liz Peek Staff

Liz Peek joined ‘Fox Report Weekend’ to discuss the controversy surrounding Democratic Socialist Zoran Mamdani, who’s running for mayor of New York City. Republicans like Rep. Michael Aller are demanding that Democrats, including Rep. Mikie Sherrill, state clearly whether they support Mamdani or align with “hardworking New Yorkers.”

Liz Peek’s Key Points:

Democrats are terrified of Mamdani’s rise.
Peek said Democrats nationwide see his candidacy as “a horror show” because only about 15% of Americans identify as very liberal — meaning Mamdani’s far-left views are political poison outside of New York and California.

He’s a liability, not an asset.
Peek warned that Mamdani is “a loser for Democrats,” saying his radical policies will alienate swing voters and hurt Democrats’ chances to regain the House majority.

Bad optics for party leadership.
With both Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries leading from New York, Peek said it reinforces the perception that Democrats only represent the liberal coasts. Endorsing a socialist mayor, she added, “proves that’s true.”

His housing plan is “economically illiterate.”
Peek said Mamdani’s push for rent caps and freezes would backfire — “no one will build or refurbish apartments if they can’t make money.” She called rent control “an idea as old as time that has never worked.”

Regulations are the real problem.
She argued New York’s housing crisis stems from excessive regulation and costs — saying it’s “the slowest and most expensive place to build housing on earth,” roughly three times costlier than Texas.

“Free buses” will backfire too.
Peek mocked Mamdani’s plan for free transit, warning it would turn buses into “rolling homeless shelters.”

Tax hikes will crush affordability.
She said Mamdani’s plan to raise taxes on the wealthy and corporations shows economic ignorance — since higher corporate taxes “get passed on to everyone else,” making life even more expensive.

Bottom line:
Peek concluded that Mamdani’s ideas would “drive affordability and the city’s economics downward.” She called him “basically a con man” selling young voters false promises.
