Democrat Representative Jasmine Crockett of Texas accused supporters of President Donald Trump of contributing to a national “mental health crisis.” Speaking on Katie Couric’s Next Question podcast, Mediate reports that Crockett said she would “give anything” to see a traditional Republican like former President George W. Bush return to the White House.
“We’ve got a mental health crisis in this country because everyone, no matter how you affiliate yourself, should be against Trump, period. This is not partisan for me,” Crockett stated.
The Texas Democrat emphasized that her opposition to Trump stems from what she sees as a broader issue beyond party politics. During the podcast, she also criticized those who supported the recent military parade in Washington, D.C., which marked the Army’s 250th anniversary, calling such displays “sick.”
“This idea that we don’t care how many people get hurt. We don’t [care] how we prostitute our service members, you know, thinking that you have your own special little army that’s for you. I mean, it is just, it’s sick. It is really sick. And anybody that supports it is also sick,” she said.
Crockett went on to express nostalgia for past Republican leadership, specifically referencing George W. Bush as an example of a more moderate and responsible figure compared to Trump.
“I would give anything to have, sad to say, George Bush. Give me any regular Republican nowadays and I would be happy. But right now we have someone who does not care and he is being enabled by the fact that there are people that follow him and they pump him up,” she said.
Crockett also expressed deep concern for the state of the U.S. military under Trump’s leadership, saying her thoughts are with those currently serving.
“My heart breaks for service members, people that signed up to protect democracy and freedom, not only here, but abroad, and were willing to risk their lives,” she said. “And now, literally, the very thing that they signed up to fight against is now their commander-in-chief. It really breaks my heart. And I don’t know how far he has to go before we can come together and just say, enough is enough.”
